Minimum breakdown voltage is 6.67V, so the diode starts conducting before the protected rail exceeds its absolute maximum. The 10.3V clamping ceiling at 48.5A means a 6V supply with a 12V-tolerant downstream device has roughly 1.7V of margin above the clamp — tight but workable if the PCB inductance is kept low. Bidirectional configuration (single channel) protects signal pairs or AC-coupled lines without needing two diodes back-to-back.
