With a minimum breakdown voltage of 64.4V and a maximum clamp voltage of 103V at 4.9A peak pulse current, it protects downstream circuitry from surges up to 500W (10/1000µs waveform). The 58V reverse standoff voltage matches common 48V battery, 56V telecom, and industrial DC bus rails, leaving headroom for normal line ripple without triggering conduction.
The 103V clamp at 4.9A defines the maximum voltage the protected IC sees during a surge. For a 48V bus, that 55V margin is enough to keep most downstream MOSFETs and DC-DC converters within their Vdsmax ratings. For shorter pulses (e.g. 8/20µs), the device can absorb significantly more energy, but the 500W figure is the safe limit for repetitive events at the rated waveform.
