What this TVS protects and why it is specified
With a reverse standoff voltage of 24 V, it sits just below the rail voltage without conducting during normal operation, then breaks down at 26.7 V min and clamps at 38.9 V max during a surge. Rated for 500 W peak pulse power on a 10/1000 µs waveform, it handles a peak pulse current of 12.8 A. That 500 W rating is a power-time product — at a shorter pulse (8/20 µs) the peak current capability is higher, but the 10/1000 µs figure is the standard comparison baseline across TVS families.
Package and mounting — DO-214AC (SMA) on tape
Housed in a DO-214AC (SMA) package, this is a standard surface-mount footprint shared across the SMAJ series. Supplied on Tape & Reel (TR), it feeds directly into pick-and-place without a reel change. The operating temperature range of -65°C to 150°C (TJ) covers military-temperature applications — cold-soak at -55°C is inside the envelope, and the 150°C junction limit allows derating headroom above 85°C ambient if the board layout pulls heat away from the package.
