What the 13V standoff and 500W rating mean for your rail
The SMAJ13AE3/TR13 is a Zener TVS diode with a 13V reverse standoff voltage — it sits across a 12V or 13V nominal supply rail and stays out of the way until a surge pushes the line above the 14.4V breakdown threshold. Once triggered, it clamps the transient to 21.5V max while shunting up to 23.2A of peak pulse current for the standard 10/1000µs waveform. The 500W peak pulse power rating gives the margin to handle common industrial surge events without derating the rail.
Package and mounting — DO-214AC (SMA) on a reel
Surface-mount DO-214AC (SMA) package — the same footprint as standard SMA diodes, so it swaps into existing pads without a layout change. Supplied on Tape & Reel, which is the expected format for pick-and-place assembly.
