At 64 MHz, this part runs twice the clock of the 32 MHz PIC24FV16KA304-I/PT and PIC16LF1559-I/SS siblings. That headroom lets the core service CAN message buffers, DMA transfers, and PWM updates without stalling the main loop — useful when the application needs deterministic interrupt latency under 1 µs. The 8-bit data path still limits throughput on wide arithmetic, but for bit-banged protocols and register-level I/O the speed is there.
