What this 8-bit PIC brings to the bench
The Microchip PIC18F2620-I/SP is an 8-bit MCU from the PIC® 18F family, built around a PIC core that runs at 40 MHz. The 28-pin SPDIP through-hole package makes it a field-swappable part: socket it, swap it, no hot-air station needed.
Peripherals and connectivity — what is on-chip
This MCU includes a 10-channel 10-bit ADC, brown-out detect and reset, a high/low-voltage detect (HLVD), power-on reset, PWM outputs, and a watchdog timer.
Supply voltage and power rail fit
The part runs from 4.2 V to 5.5 V, which means it is happy on a 5 V rail — common in legacy industrial and automotive designs. If your board is 3.3 V only, this is not the MCU for that rail; look at the PIC18F2XK22 series or a 16-bit part with a wider supply range. The 40 MHz core draws a few tens of mA typical, so a standard 5 V LDO or a direct battery rail with a regulator handles it fine.
Lifecycle — still a current part
That is a relief if you are refreshing a legacy board that already uses the 28-DIP footprint.
