20 MHz 8-bit workhorse for cost-sensitive control
The Microchip PIC16F886T-I/SO is an 8-bit PIC® 16F family MCU running at 20 MHz with 14 KB of Flash program memory (8K x 14 words).
Memory sizing and peripheral fit
The 14 KB Flash is adequate for mid-complexity firmware — think PID loops, Modbus RTU stacks, or keypad-decode with a seven-segment display driver. The 368-byte RAM limits the buffer depth on UART or SPI data streams; if your application queues more than a couple hundred bytes, budget for external serial RAM or a smaller buffer. The 256-byte EEPROM holds calibration constants and configuration parameters through power cycles without needing a Flash sector erase. The 11-channel 10-bit ADC resolves to about 5 mV per count on a 5V reference — adequate for thermistor inputs, potentiometer feedback, or current-sense amplifier outputs.
Housed in a 28-pin SOIC wide-body (7.50 mm width), the PIC16F886T-I/SO offers 24 general-purpose I/O pins. The wide supply range (2V to 5.5V) means the same BOM can serve a 3.3V sensor module and a 5V relay-driver board — just watch the brown-out reset threshold setting if you run near the lower rail.
