What this 8-bit PIC brings to the board
The Microchip PIC16F1847-E/SS is an 8-bit MCU from the PIC® XLP™ mTouch™ 16F family, built around a PIC core running at 32 MHz. It packs 14 KB of Flash program memory, 1 KB of RAM, and 256 bytes of EEPROM — enough for moderate sensor-driven firmware with non-volatile calibration or configuration data. The 12-channel 10-bit ADC covers analog inputs like thermistors, potentiometers, or current-sense resistors without an external converter.
Temperature grade — industrial to under-hood
That 125°C upper limit puts it in the same bracket as automotive under-hood or industrial motor-drive environments where the PCB sees real heat. If your design lives in a cabinet near a furnace, an engine bay, or a solar inverter, this temperature grade saves you from having to qualify a separate high-temp variant.
The 1 KB RAM handles a few buffers and state variables; if your application streams data or holds large lookup tables, you will need to budget carefully. The 256 bytes of EEPROM are handy for storing calibration constants or fault logs that survive power cycles. Because the EEPROM is separate from Flash, you can update parameters without rewriting program memory.
Housed in a 20-pin SSOP (0.209" body width, 5.30 mm), this is a compact surface-mount package. The 0.65 mm pitch is fine for hand-assembly with a fine tip, but reflow is the production path. No exposed pad, so thermal dissipation goes through the leads — fine for this power class. The 15 I/O pins give you room for a handful of sensors and actuators alongside the serial interfaces.
For BOM planning, the active status also means the official distribution channel carries it, and independent sourcing can backfill if the lead times stretch. The part is ROHS3 compliant.
