What this 8-bit PIC brings to the board
The Microchip PIC16F18455-E/SO is an 8-bit MCU from the PIC® XLP™ 16F family, built around the PIC core and clocked at 32 MHz. It packs 14 KB of Flash program memory (8K x 14 words), 1K x 8 of RAM, and 256 x 8 of EEPROM — enough for moderate firmware and data logging in industrial or automotive-adjacent designs. The 28-pin SOIC package (7.50 mm wide body) keeps the footprint compact for space-constrained PCBs. On the analog side, there are 24 channels of 12-bit ADC and one 5-bit DAC — enough to read a dozen sensors and output a control voltage without an external converter. The peripheral set includes Brown-out Detect, Power-on Reset, PWM, and a Watchdog Timer, plus a full suite of serial interfaces: EUSART, I2C, LINbus, MSSP, SMBus/PMBus, RS-232, RS-485, SPI, and UART/USART. That covers most industrial communication protocols out of the box.

The 28-SOIC package is a mature, widely supported footprint — reflow profiles are standard, and the part is not moisture-sensitive beyond typical MSL 3 handling.
For timing-sensitive tasks like UART baud-rate generation or PWM period control, the internal oscillator's accuracy is sufficient for typical industrial and consumer use. If you need tighter frequency tolerance for CAN or LIN bus timing, the part also supports an external clock source.
