20 MHz 8-bit PIC with OTP — the BOM-fit reality
The PIC16C73B-20/SP is an 8-bit PIC MCU from Microchip's PIC® 16C series, clocked at 20 MHz with 7 KB (4K x 14) of OTP program memory and 192 x 8 bytes of RAM. It integrates 22 I/O lines, I²C/SPI/UART connectivity, a 5-channel 8-bit ADC, and peripherals including Brown-out Detect/Reset, POR, PWM, and WDT.
Program memory is one-time programmable (OTP). The device ships blank and must be programmed at the factory or in-system before assembly — there is no erase cycle, no firmware update path after the part is programmed. For designs that require field-reprogrammability, a FLASH-based sibling (e.g., the PIC16LF1559-I/SS with 32 MHz and 14 KB FLASH) is the logical cross-shop, though it carries a different footprint and supply rail.
For production BOMs that need the OTP, 5 V supply, and through-hole package, this part is still a valid design-in choice with no imminent obsolescence risk.
