High-side P-channel load switch for 1.7-5.5V rails
The MIC94060YML is a single-channel high-side P-channel power switch from Microchip Technology, designed for general-purpose load switching in the 1.7V to 5.5V range. The switch uses a single On/Off logic input with non-inverting control, and it doesn't need a separate Vcc supply pin — the gate drive is derived from the load rail itself. That simplifies the BOM for a basic power gating function: one GPIO from the MCU turns the load on and off.
Slew-rate controlled turn-on for inrush management
The slew-rate controlled feature means the switch ramps the output voltage on gradually rather than slamming it on. That limits the inrush current into capacitive loads — a 10µF bypass cap on the output side sees a controlled dV/dt instead of a near-short at turn-on, which keeps the upstream supply from drooping or the MCU from browning out. The 85mOhm Rds(on) is a typical value at nominal conditions; the actual on-resistance climbs with junction temperature. At 125°C the Rds(on) could roughly double, so the 2A rating should be derated if the switch sits near a hot regulator or in a high-ambient enclosure. The -40°C to 125°C operating range covers both cold-crank and under-hood environments.
TMLF package — board-fit and thermal path
The MIC94060YML comes in a 4-UFDFN exposed pad package, also called 4-TMLF®, with a 1.2x1.6mm body. The exposed pad underneath is the main thermal path — the PCB land pattern should include a thermal via array to the ground plane to pull heat out of the die. Without that via cluster, the 2A continuous rating becomes a short-pulse-only rating. The supplier device package is listed as 4-TMLF® (1.2x1.6), so the stencil aperture and solder paste volume need to match that tiny footprint. A 0.5mm pitch or finer is typical for this class; the board house should confirm the solder joint inspection criteria before the first prototype run.
