Active production — 5 A adjustable LDO for power rails
The MIC69502WR-TR is an active-production adjustable positive LDO regulator from Microchip Technology, rated for 5 A continuous output current. The output voltage is set by an external resistor divider from a 0.5 V minimum to a 5.5 V maximum, matching the input voltage ceiling. With a maximum dropout of 0.5 V at full load, the input rail must stay at least 0.5 V above the target output across the load range to maintain regulation. The 5 mA quiescent current is the regulator's own draw — it flows regardless of load and sets the light-load efficiency floor.
Package and thermal interface — SPak-7 surface-mount
The PCB copper area under the tab sets the junction-to-ambient thermal resistance — a solid pour with vias to an inner-plane layer is the standard layout for dissipating the dropout power at 5 A. The operating temperature range of -40 to 125 °C covers industrial and automotive ambient conditions. The enable pin allows the regulator to be shut down externally, pulling the quiescent current to near zero when the rail is not needed.
Protection and compliance
Built-in over-current and over-temperature protection guard the regulator and load against fault conditions — the device folds back or shuts down before the junction exceeds its safe operating area.
