Dual-rail LDO in a hand-solderable SOT-23-6
The MIC5211-BLYM6-TR is a dual-output linear regulator from Microchip Technology that delivers fixed 1.8V and 3.3V rails, each rated for 80 mA continuous output. The two regulators share a common input, so a single 16V max supply feeds both rails — handy for mixed-voltage designs where an MCU core runs at 1.8V and its I/O or analog section needs 3.3V. The SOT-23-6 package is a hand-solderable SMD footprint — no hot-air gun required for a careful iron-and-tweezer job. The 0.95 mm pin pitch leaves room for a breakout board or a direct PCB layout without micro-vias.
Dropout, quiescent draw, and protection — what matters on the bench
Maximum dropout is 0.5V at 50 mA per channel — that means the input rail needs to stay at least half a volt above the output voltage to keep regulation. For the 3.3V output, a 3.8V input is the practical floor at full load. Quiescent current is 450 µA typical, with a maximum supply current of 1.2 mA. That's not ultra-low-power territory, but it's fine for always-on peripherals or bias rails where the load current dominates the power budget. Built-in protection covers over-current, over-temperature, and reverse polarity — the reverse polarity clamp means a miswired supply won't instantly kill the part, which is a nice safety net during breadboard prototyping.
The enable pin on each regulator lets you gate the output rails independently — useful for sequencing or power-saving shutdown of unused sections without a separate load switch.
