2 MHz switching — inductor size vs layout discipline
Switching at a fixed 2 MHz, the regulator lets you use a small-value inductor (typically 1–2.2 µH) that fits a compact 4x4 mm MLF footprint. The trade-off is layout sensitivity: the high di/dt edges demand a tight loop from the input capacitor through the internal high-side FET, the external Schottky catch diode, and back to the cap ground — the datasheet layout guide should be followed, not just read. Because the part is non-synchronous (no internal low-side FET), an external Schottky rectifier is required per channel. The catch diode's forward voltage and reverse leakage at the operating temperature directly affect efficiency, particularly at light loads — a 0.4–0.5 V Vf Schottky in a SOD-123 or SMA package is a typical match for the 2 A output.
