The MIC4682YM is a step-down (buck) switching regulator from Microchip Technology's SuperSwitcher™ series, delivering up to 2 A to a single adjustable output from a 4 V to 34 V input rail. The 4 V minimum input covers 5 V regulated rails directly; the 34 V maximum covers 24 V industrial bus and 12 V automotive systems with headroom for load-dump transients.

200 kHz fixed-frequency — inductor size vs EMI trade-off

Switching at 200 kHz keeps the fundamental switching noise below the AM broadcast band, simplifying input filter design for noise-sensitive loads. The fixed 200 kHz rate allows a 47-100 µH inductor in the standard 8-SOIC layout — small enough for a compact board, large enough to keep ripple current below 30 % of the 2 A load. No synchronous rectifier is integrated — an external Schottky diode (e.g., 3 A, 40 V) is required for the catch diode, which adds a cent in BOM but simplifies the output stage for low-duty-cycle designs.

-40 to 125 °C junction — industrial and automotive temperature grade

The 8-SOIC package (0.154" wide, 3.90 mm body) has no exposed thermal pad — the primary heat path is through the copper traces and PCB planes, so a 2-oz copper pour on the top layer is recommended for full 2 A output at high ambient. Surface-mount assembly with tube packaging — the 8-SOIC footprint is standard across pick-and-place lines; tube handling is fine for prototype runs or low-volume production.
