Product details

Dual 1.5A inverting driver for N- and P-channel FETs

The Microchip MIC4426YN is a dual low-side MOSFET driver with independent inverting input channels, each capable of sourcing and sinking 1.5 A peak current. It is designed to drive both N-channel and P-channel power MOSFETs, making it a flexible choice for medium-current gate drive in switch-mode power supplies, motor controllers, and DC-DC converters. The 4.5 V to 18 V supply range lets it work from a 5 V logic rail up to a 15 V industrial bias, and the 20 ns typical rise time keeps switching losses low at moderate frequencies.

With a typical 20 ns rise time and 29 ns fall time into a 1 nF load (datasheet condition), the MIC4426YN can charge and discharge the gate capacitance of a medium-power MOSFET in tens of nanoseconds. The symmetrical 1.5 A source and sink current means the driver can both turn on and turn off the FET at roughly the same rate, which simplifies dead-time budgeting in half-bridge or push-pull topologies.

150°C junction rating — deployment context

It can sit next to a hot MOSFET on a power-stage PCB without needing a heatsink, provided the ambient stays below 100°C and the package dissipation is respected.

Each channel's input is inverting, so a logic high on the input turns the MOSFET off, and a logic low turns it on. This is the opposite of the non-inverting MIC4427 family. The independent channels let each output be controlled separately, useful for driving two discrete FETs or one FET with a separate enable signal.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between MIC4426YN and MIC4427YN?

The MIC4426YN has inverting input logic (logic high turns the MOSFET off), while the MIC4427YN uses non-inverting logic (logic high turns the MOSFET on). Both have the same 1.5 A peak drive, 20 ns rise time, and 4.5 V to 18 V supply range. The MIC4427YN is available in a surface-mount SOIC-8 package (MIC4427YMM), whereas the MIC4426YN is through-hole 8-DIP only.

Can MIC4426YN drive P-channel MOSFETs?

Yes. The MIC4426YN is explicitly rated to drive both N-channel and P-channel MOSFETs. The inverting input logic is well suited for P-channel high-side drivers where a logic low turns the FET on.
