2 MHz boost for LED backlight strings
The MIC2293-15YML is a fixed-frequency PWM step-up (boost) DC-DC regulator from Microchip, purpose-built for white LED backlight applications. It delivers a regulated 15 V output from a 2.5 V to 10 V input supply, with the internal switch rated for 750 mA peak current. Switching at 2 MHz keeps the external inductor small — a 4.7 µH to 10 µH shielded inductor typically fits the bill for backlight strings of 3 to 5 series LEDs. The high frequency also pushes ripple above the audible band, which matters in handheld and automotive displays.
PWM dimming and output voltage — fixed, no feedback divider
Dimming is handled via PWM on the enable pin, not an analog current reference — this keeps the LED colour temperature stable across brightness levels. The 15 V output is internally fixed, so the BOM saves one feedback resistor divider compared to adjustable-output boost converters. With a single output channel and internal switch, the part is a self-contained solution for a single LED string. The 750 mA switch current limits the total LED power to roughly 2.5 W at 15 V, assuming typical conversion efficiency in the 80–85% range.
