Boost LED driver with integrated switch
The MIC2287CYD5-TR is a DC-DC regulator configured as a step-up (boost) LED driver from Microchip Technology, designed to drive a single LED string from a low-voltage supply. Its internal switch handles up to 750 mA, and the 1.2 MHz switching frequency keeps the external inductor and capacitor small enough for compact backlight modules.
Both analog and PWM dimming are supported, so you can adjust brightness with a DC voltage or a PWM signal from a microcontroller without an external DAC. The TSOT-23-5 package is hand-solderable with a fine tip iron — a good fit for prototype builds or small-run production where reflow isn't available.
Where it fits in a backlight design
Targeted at backlight applications, this driver suits small LCD panels in handheld instruments, portable meters, or battery-powered displays where a single-cell input needs to drive a string of white LEDs.
