The MCP9902T-2E/RW is a digital temperature sensor that monitors both its own die temperature and an external diode-connected transistor. Communication is over the I²C/SMBus interface, so it drops onto a shared two-wire bus alongside other sensors or EEPROMs without consuming a dedicated GPIO. Supply voltage is 3V to 3.6V, matching common 3.3V logic rails.

One-Shot, Sleep, and Standby modes for power management

The sensor includes a One-Shot mode that takes a single measurement on command and returns to low-power standby — useful in battery-powered gear where continuous conversion would waste energy. Sleep and Standby modes further reduce the quiescent draw between reads. A programmable limit register lets the part assert an alert when the temperature crosses a threshold without polling the bus — the host reads the alert flag only when it fires, cutting bus traffic.
