The part is architected as a temperature monitoring system for DIMM DDR memory: the sigma-delta ADC feeds a register bank that the host reads over the I²C/SMBus interface, so the memory controller can poll junction temperature without an external thermistor or ADC channel. Supply voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V means it can run off the DIMM's 3.3V SPD rail or a 2.5V auxiliary supply — no separate regulator needed for the sensor.
