Package and board-fit — 10-DFN with exposed pad
The MCP73213T-A61I/MF is supplied in a 10-VFDFN exposed-pad package (3x3 mm body, supplier device package 10-DFN). The exposed pad on the underside must be soldered to a thermal land on the PCB — the datasheet's recommended footprint includes a 2.2x2.2 mm pad with via array to the ground plane for heat spreading. Surface-mount assembly per JEDEC J-STD-020 moisture sensitivity level 1 applies.
Charge parameters — 2-cell Li-Ion at 1.1 A
This charger IC is designed for 2-cell series Lithium Ion/Polymer battery packs with a target full-charge voltage of 8.4 V. The charge current is constant-current programmable up to 1.1 A maximum — the actual current setpoint is determined by an external sense resistor between the PROG and VSS pins. The 1.1 A ceiling suits medium-capacity packs in the 2000-3000 mAh range where a 0.5C charge rate is typical.
Fault protection and temperature range
Over-voltage protection is integrated — the charger terminates the charge cycle if the battery voltage exceeds the regulation threshold, preventing cell stress.
