8-bit resolution, 4.5 µs settling — control-loop update rate
The MCP4901-E/MS: An 8-bit DAC with a typical settling time of 4.5 µs updates a control voltage at roughly 220 kHz full-scale — fast enough for a closed-loop bias trim or a setpoint in a power-supply margining circuit, but not for a high-speed waveform generator. The 8-bit resolution gives 256 output steps; the INL of ±0.25 LSB and DNL of ±0.2 LSB guarantee monotonicity, so every digital code produces a unique analog output with no missing codes.
No separate analog supply or voltage regulator is needed, which simplifies the PCB power tree and reduces BOM count. The reference is external — the output voltage span equals the reference voltage times the digital code divided by 256. The SPI data interface uses the same supply voltage as the core, so the digital I/O levels match the microcontroller or FPGA rail without a level shifter.
8-MSOP package — board-fit for space-constrained designs
The supplier device package is 8-MSOP; the wider 8-TSSOP footprint is also listed as a compatible case code. Surface-mount assembly with standard reflow profiles — no special handling beyond normal MSL precautions.
The operating temperature range covers the full industrial and automotive under-hood band. An engine-bay ECU, a solar inverter, or a remote sensor node that sees 105°C ambient still has margin to the 125°C maximum junction temperature. ROHS3 compliant — no restricted-substance exemptions to track.
