The MCP4801-E/P is an 8-bit digital-to-analog converter from Microchip Technology that delivers a voltage-buffered output via a single-channel String DAC architecture. It uses an SPI data interface and integrates an internal voltage reference, so no external reference IC is needed on the board.
Accuracy and settling time for control loops
Integral nonlinearity is ±0.25 LSB and differential nonlinearity is ±0.2 LSB — both below 0.5 LSB, so the output is monotonic across the full 8-bit range without missing codes. Typical settling time of 4.5 µs to 0.5 LSB sets the update rate ceiling: at 8 bits, a new voltage level is stable within about 220 kHz, fast enough for closed-loop trim or sensor bias adjustment.
