8-bit single-channel DAC in a 2x3 DFN
The MCP4801-E/MC is an 8-bit, single-channel, voltage-buffered DAC using a string-architecture topology. It communicates over an SPI bus and includes an internal reference, so no external reference IC is needed in the BOM. Settling time is 4.5 µs typical, which means the output reaches within 1 LSB of the final value in under 5 µs after the SPI write completes — fast enough for closed-loop trim loops in power supplies or sensor calibration at update rates up to roughly 200 kHz. INL and DNL are ±0.25 LSB and ±0.2 LSB respectively — the DNL is under 0.5 LSB across the full code range, so the DAC is monotonic by design. No missing codes between adjacent digital inputs.
Supply rails and temperature range
No split-supply hassle; the internal reference scales with Vdd. The -40°C to +125°C operating range is the full industrial-plus-automotive temperature band. If your system sees 105°C under the hood or sits on a hot factory floor, this part keeps its INL spec without derating.
Housed in an 8-VFDFN with exposed pad, supplier package 8-DFN (2x3 mm). The exposed pad on the bottom needs a thermal via or a copper pour to the ground plane — the datasheet recommends soldering the pad to a PCB land pattern that matches the 2x3 mm footprint for thermal relief. The part ships in a tube.
