50 kΩ, 129 taps — where the resolution matters
The MCP4532T-503E/MS is a single-channel digital rheostat (two-terminal variable resistor) with a 50 kΩ end-to-end resistance and 129 wiper taps. That works out to about 390 Ω per step — fine enough for precision bias trimming or volume control where a 64-tap part would leave a noticeable gap between adjacent settings. The linear taper means the resistance changes uniformly with tap position; no pseudo-log curve baked in. If you need a log response for audio, you compensate in the host firmware or pick a different taper variant in the MCP45XX family.
I²C bus with selectable address — stacking on the same two wires
Communication runs over a standard I²C interface. The selectable-address feature lets you put multiple MCP4532 devices on the same bus without collision — each one gets a unique address via the address pin, so a single 2-wire bus can serve several trim pots or calibration points. The wiper resistance is 75 Ω typical — low enough that the voltage drop across the wiper is negligible in most signal-level circuits, but check it if you are switching currents above a few mA.
