10-bit SAR ADC with 200k SPS — signal bandwidth fit
The MCP3002-I/P is a 10-bit successive-approximation-register (SAR) ADC that samples at 200k samples per second. At that rate, the Nyquist limit is 100 kHz — so it covers audio-band, sensor, and slow-control loops without aliasing concerns as long as the input is band-limited. It operates from a single 2.7V to 5.5V supply that powers both the analog and digital sections — no separate analog rail needed. The reference is the supply itself, so the LSB step size tracks the rail voltage.
Input configuration and interface
The MCP3002-I/P offers two input channels that can be configured as single-ended or as one pseudo-differential pair. The pseudo-differential mode rejects common-mode noise on the low side, useful when the signal source and the ADC share a ground path. Data is transferred over an SPI interface — the conversion result clocks out on the MISO line while the next channel is selected on MOSI. The 1:1 S/H-to-ADC ratio means each sample is taken directly from the input, not from a buffered sample-and-hold array.
Package and board-fit note
Housed in an 8-pin DIP (0.300-inch width, 7.62 mm body), through-hole mounting. The PDIP package is breadboard-friendly and easy to hand-solder — a practical choice for prototyping, low-volume builds, or field repairs where rework access matters.
It is ROHS3 compliant, so it ships into RoHS-regulated markets without exemption paperwork.
