Headline ratings and the fit decision
The MCP1725T-1802E/SN is a single-output positive LDO regulator delivering a fixed 1.8V output at up to 500 mA continuous. Operating temperature spans -40°C to 125°C (industrial grade), suiting it for automotive cabin, engine-bay-adjacent, or outdoor industrial control boards where ambient heat is a factor. The 220 µA quiescent current keeps standby drain low enough for always-on rail applications.
PSRR and noise-sensitive loads
Power supply rejection ratio is 60 dB at 100 Hz — this attenuates 100/120 Hz ripple from a rectified line-frequency supply by a factor of 1000. For an ADC or analog front-end powered off a switching pre-regulator, the PSRR at higher frequencies (not specified here) will be lower, so the upstream filter design must account for the switching noise band.
Protection and control features
On-chip protection includes over-temperature shutdown, short-circuit current limiting, and under-voltage lockout (UVLO) — the regulator shuts down cleanly if the input drops below the UVLO threshold, preventing the pass transistor from operating in dropout saturation. Enable and Power Good pins give sequencing control: the Enable pin lets a supervisor or MCU gate the output rail, and Power Good asserts when the output is within regulation.
8-SOIC package and board integration
The 500 mA output at 125°C ambient requires adequate copper pour on the PCB for heat spreading; the junction-to-ambient thermal resistance of the SOIC-8 is around 160°C/W without airflow, so the power dissipation (Vin - Vout) × Iout must be derated accordingly.
Compliance and documentation
ROHS3 Compliant per Microchip's listing — the part meets the latest EU RoHS exemption-free standard.
