Product details

Boost regulator with 0.8 V startup

The MCP1640T-I/MC is a step-up (boost) switching regulator from Microchip Technology, designed to generate a regulated adjustable output from input voltages as low as 0.8 V. This makes it suitable for single-cell alkaline or NiMH battery-powered applications where the battery voltage drops below 1 V during discharge.

Output voltage and thermal range

The output is adjustable from a minimum of 2 V up to a maximum of 5.5 V, matching the input voltage ceiling. The single positive output configuration simplifies the feedback network — a resistor divider from VOUT to FB sets the regulation point. The 8-VFDFN exposed-pad package (8-DFN 2x3 mm) aids thermal dissipation through the PCB copper plane.

The exposed pad must be soldered to the PCB ground plane for rated thermal and electrical performance.

Frequently asked questions

Does the MCP1640T-I/MC require an external Schottky diode?

No. The device integrates synchronous rectification, so the low-side and high-side switches are both internal MOSFETs. No external catch diode is needed.
