SoC FPGA with a hard ARM core and 60K logic fabric
The Microchip M2S060-1FCSG325I is a SmartFusion®2 system-on-chip FPGA that integrates an ARM® Cortex®-M3 processor running at 166 MHz with 60K logic modules of programmable fabric. It carries 256KB of embedded SRAM and 200 general-purpose I/O pins, making it a single-chip target for mixed control-and-logic designs where a discrete MCU plus FPGA would double the BOM count.
The ARM Cortex-M3 core at 166 MHz handles deterministic control loops and protocol stacks, while the 60K logic-module FPGA fabric absorbs parallel data-path tasks — sensor fusion, custom PWM generation, or hardware-accelerated filtering — that would stall a software-only MCU. The 256KB SRAM is shared between the processor and the fabric; budget it for both the firmware heap and the FPGA data buffers. On the connectivity side, the part integrates CANbus, Ethernet, I2C, SPI, UART/USART, and USB, plus dedicated DDR, PCIe, and SERDES peripherals. That means the same chip can talk to a fieldbus network, stream data over PCIe to a host, and drive a local display — all without external bridge ICs.
