The M2S025-VFG256I is a Microchip SmartFusion®2 SoC FPGA that combines an ARM® Cortex®-M3 processor core running at 166 MHz with an FPGA fabric rated at 25K logic modules.
What the 25K logic modules and 256 KB eSRAM buy you
25K logic modules is the mid-density tier in the SmartFusion2 family — enough for a soft-core peripheral, a custom DMA engine, or a small packet processor alongside the Cortex-M3. The 256 KB eSRAM (listed as frame size) is the on-chip SRAM dedicated to the MCU subsystem; it holds the real-time control loop and boot code without touching external memory. The 138 user I/Os routed to the 256-ball FBGA package mean you can bring out most of the fabric signals to board-level interfaces, but the 0.80 mm ball pitch still demands a four-layer PCB for clean fan-out on the outer rows.
For high-speed links, the part integrates DDR, PCIe, and SERDES interfaces — a step up from the smaller SmartFusion2 variants that lack SERDES. That makes it a candidate for baseband processing or bridge applications that need a few gigabit lanes.
