The Microchip M2S025-FGG484I is a SmartFusion®2 SoC FPGA that integrates an ARM® Cortex®-M3 processor core running at 166 MHz with 25K logic modules on a single die. This is the part that replaces a discrete MCU plus FPGA pair with a single-chip solution, cutting board area and the inter-chip signal routing that eats into timing margin. The 256 KB embedded SRAM (eSRAM) serves as the tightly-coupled memory for the Cortex-M3, giving deterministic access latency for real-time control loops — no cache-miss penalty to worry about when the FPGA fabric is moving data in and out.
The 484-ball FBGA package (1.0 mm pitch) demands a controlled reflow profile — the board house needs to know the MSL level before the stencil is cut.

The M2S005-FGG484I is the same package and pin-compatible across the SmartFusion2 family, but it packs 5K logic modules and 209 I/O compared to the M2S025's 25K logic modules and 267 I/O. If the design needs more than 209 I/O or the FPGA fabric is running a logic-heavy state machine, the M2S025 is the right tier — the M2S005 saves cost only when the smaller gate count fits.
