Product details

EL backlight driver for portable instrumentation

The Microchip Technology HV833MG-G is an EL (electroluminescent) lamp driver IC designed to generate the high-voltage AC waveform needed to drive electroluminescent panels in portable, battery-powered equipment. The device switches at a frequency between 55 kHz and 75 kHz, a range that matches the typical impedance and brightness requirements of small- to medium-area EL lamps used in backlit keypads, LCD displays, and indicator panels.

The 1.8V to 6.5V supply range covers single-cell Li-ion (3.0V-4.2V) and two-cell alkaline (2.4V-3.0V) battery chemistries, as well as regulated 3.3V and 5.0V rails. The 150 µA supply current is the quiescent draw of the oscillator and control logic; the actual load current depends on the EL lamp capacitance and the output voltage swing. This allows deployment in outdoor handheld terminals, automotive cabin electronics, and factory-floor HMIs that see ambient temperatures outside the commercial 0-70°C band.

Active lifecycle and compliance documentation

The device is ROHS3 compliant, meeting the restriction of hazardous substances directive for lead, mercury, cadmium, and other substances.
