Dual 100 MHz HCSL clock source in a 20-VFQFN
The DSC400-0404Q0058KE1T is a MEMS-based XO (Standard) oscillator from Microchip's DSC400 series, delivering two 100 MHz HCSL outputs from a single 20-VFQFN exposed pad package measuring 5.00 mm x 3.20 mm. HCSL (High-Speed Current Steering Logic) outputs are the typical clock format for PCIe reference clocks, requiring a 50-ohm termination to ground at the receiver — the oscillator itself does not include on-die termination, so the PCB layout must place the termination resistors close to the load.
Frequency stability is rated at ±50 ppm over the -20°C to 70°C commercial temperature range — this is tight enough for a 100 MHz PCIe Gen1/2 reference clock, where the total system budget typically allows ±300 ppm including the PLL tracking error.
The supply voltage range of 2.25V to 3.6V covers 2.5V and 3.3V core rails without an external LDO — the internal regulator rejects supply ripple, so a clean 3.3V from a switching regulator is sufficient as long as the ripple stays below 50 mVpp at the switching frequency.
