Product details

Dual-frequency MEMS oscillator for timing trees

The DSC400-0401Q0103KE2 is a MEMS-based XO (Standard) that replaces two discrete quartz oscillators with a single 20-VFQFN package, outputting 12.288 MHz and 100 MHz simultaneously.

Output flexibility and supply compatibility

Each output can be independently configured as HCSL or LVCMOS, so the 100 MHz clock can drive a PCIe reference (HCSL) while the 12.288 MHz feeds an Ethernet PHY or audio codec (LVCMOS) without external level translation. The wide supply range of 2.25V to 3.6V covers 2.5V and 3.3V rails directly, eliminating a dedicated LDO for the oscillator supply.

Stability and temperature grade

The -20°C lower limit means this part is not rated for cold-start automotive or outdoor telecom cabinet use; those applications need the industrial-temperature variant of the DSC400 family.

Package and board layout notes

The 20-VFQFN with exposed pad (5.00mm x 3.20mm body, 0.90mm height) requires a thermal via array under the pad for proper heat transfer; the datasheet layout recommendation should be followed to keep junction temperature within limits.

Frequently asked questions

Can DSC400-0401Q0103KE2 be used in automotive applications?

No. The operating temperature range is -20°C to 70°C, which does not meet AEC-Q100 requirements. For automotive-grade MEMS oscillators, look at Microchip's DSC6000 or DSC8000 series with extended temperature options.
