Why choose a MEMS XO over a quartz oscillator for automotive use?
The 2.25V to 3.6V supply range lets this XO run directly from a 2.5V or 3.3V rail without an extra LDO — one less component in the power tree, and the CMOS output levels track the supply so no level translation is needed for the downstream logic. ±25 ppm frequency stability over temperature and supply variation is tight enough for a 40 MHz clock feeding a CAN FD controller or a 100BASE-T1 PHY — the total timing error budget for those interfaces is typically ±50 ppm or wider, leaving margin for the PLL jitter.
Package and footprint — 2.5 mm x 2.0 mm 6-SMD
Housed in a 6-SMD, No Lead package measuring 0.098" x 0.079" (2.50 mm x 2.00 mm) with a seated height of 0.035" (0.90 mm), this oscillator fits into compact PCB layouts where board real estate is at a premium — typical for ADAS cameras, radar modules, or telematics control units. Surface-mount assembly with a no-lead land pattern means the PCB footprint is a simple pad array — no through-holes, no bent leads to inspect.
