Product details

MEMS resonator replaces quartz — same output, wider temperature range

Unlike a quartz crystal oscillator, the MEMS resonator does not require a separate load capacitor or startup time — the output is valid within 1 ms of power-up.

The supply range is 2.25V to 3.6V, so the same order code works on a 2.5V or 3.3V rail without a separate voltage variant.

The 6-VDFN package measures 3.20mm x 2.50mm with a seated height of 0.90mm. The 0.50mm pitch lands are on the bottom — the PCB land pattern should match the VDFN-6 recommended footprint in the datasheet. No through-hole or edge-mount option; this is a surface-mount-only part.

Microchip lists the DSC1121CL5-080.0000 as Active.

Frequently asked questions

Is DSC1121CL5-080.0000 a direct replacement for older quartz oscillator models?

Functionally yes — it outputs a CMOS clock at 80 MHz with the same logic levels as a quartz oscillator. The MEMS resonator is less sensitive to vibration and temperature shock, and it does not require external load capacitors. However, the 6-VDFN package footprint may differ from older quartz oscillators in larger packages (e.g., 7mm x 5mm). Verify the PCB land pattern against the VDFN-6 footprint before committing the BOM.

Can DSC1121CL5-080.0000 be used with a 3.3V supply?

Yes. The supply range is 2.25V to 3.6V, so both 2.5V and 3.3V rails are within spec. The CMOS output swing follows the supply voltage — at 3.3V the output high is approximately 3.3V, compatible with 3.3V logic inputs.
