12.288 MHz MEMS oscillator — what it replaces and why it fits
The DSC1121CE5-012.2880 is a standard XO (Standard) MEMS oscillator from Microchip's DSC1121 series, delivering a 12.288 MHz CMOS output with ±10 ppm frequency stability across the full -20 to +70 °C range. That stability is tighter than the ±25 ppm or ±50 ppm you get from commodity quartz oscillators — it matters when the clock feeds a USB controller, Ethernet PHY, or a serial transceiver that needs to stay within the ppm budget over temperature.
The DSC1121 family is Microchip's standard MEMS oscillator line, so future revs and alternative frequency variants share the same 6-SMD no-lead footprint and pinout.
That 13 mA saving is not huge, but on a battery-powered design where every mA counts across multiple oscillators, it adds up without an external load switch.
