MEMS timing for extreme environments
The supply voltage range of 2.25 V to 3.6 V covers both 2.5 V and 3.3 V rails without an intermediate LDO — one less part on the BOM and one less dropout voltage to budget. Maximum active current is 35 mA, which is typical for a 16 MHz CMOS oscillator at this temperature range. That 95 µA is the oscillator's own draw — the rest of the system still needs its own sleep current, but the clock tree stops consuming its 35 mA. For a battery-powered sensor that sleeps 99% of the time, the difference is meaningful.
The 6-SMD, No Lead Exposed Pad package measures 7.00 mm x 5.00 mm with a seated height of 0.90 mm. Without those vias, the pad floats thermally and the oscillator's junction temperature rises above the ambient rating.
