Why a MEMS oscillator instead of quartz
For a 32.768 MHz clock in an automotive or industrial environment, the MEMS construction eliminates the quartz aging drift that can pull a crystal oscillator outside the ±50 ppm stability window over ten years.
The 4-SMD, no-lead package measures 3.20 mm x 2.50 mm with a seated height of 0.90 mm — it is a standard 3.2 x 2.5 mm footprint that matches many quartz oscillators, so a board designed for a quartz XO in that size can accept the DSC1001 without a layout change. The surface-mount pads are on the bottom; no through-holes are needed.
