MEMS oscillator for automotive timing
The DSC1001AI5-008.0000T is a Microchip Technology MEMS-based XO (Standard) oscillator delivering a fixed 8 MHz CMOS output. Its AEC-Q100 qualification targets automotive electronics where temperature cycling and vibration tolerance matter — the MEMS resonator inherently handles shock better than a quartz crystal, reducing the risk of frequency shift under engine-bay or chassis-mounted conditions. The 1.8V to 3.3V supply range lets it run from either a 1.8V core rail or a 3.3V I/O rail without a level translator, simplifying the power tree in mixed-voltage designs. The ±10 ppm frequency stability keeps clock jitter within tight margins for CAN, LIN, or USB full-speed interfaces — no external load capacitors or trimming needed.
Standby power-down and package fit
A standby (Power Down) function pulls the disable current to 15 µA max, making this oscillator suitable for battery-backed modules that sleep between wake events — the MEMS resonator starts up faster than a quartz equivalent, so the system is ready sooner after standby exit. Housed in a 4-SMD, No Lead Exposed Pad package measuring 7.00mm x 5.00mm with a seated height of 0.90mm, the footprint matches standard 7x5 mm oscillator land patterns. The exposed pad aids thermal conduction to the PCB ground plane — important when the oscillator sits near a hot MCU or power stage.
