48 MHz AVR32 core — what it buys you on the bus
The ATUC128D3-A2UT is a 32-bit AVR32 UC3 D microcontroller from Microchip (formerly Atmel), clocked at 48 MHz with 128 KB of on-chip Flash and 16 KB of SRAM. The 32-bit AVR32 architecture delivers a single-cycle multiply and a compact instruction set, so the 48 MHz ceiling translates to roughly 48–50 MIPS in linear code — enough for USB audio streaming, real-time sensor fusion, or a modest RTOS stack without wait-state stalling on internal Flash. The part integrates a full-speed USB 2.0 device interface alongside I²C, SPI, and multiple UART/USART channels, plus an 8-channel 10-bit ADC and a DMA controller. This peripheral set targets applications such as industrial control panels, portable instrumentation, USB-to-serial bridges, and IoT edge nodes that need a single-chip MCU with wired connectivity.
The supply range spans 1.65 V to 3.6 V, which lets the MCU run directly from a single Li-ion cell (3.0–4.2 V with an LDO) or a regulated 3.3 V rail without an extra voltage translator for the I/O. At the low end, 1.65 V operation matches the threshold of many 1.8 V-logic peripherals, saving a level-shifter on the SPI or UART lines.
