The Microchip ATMEGA168A-MMHR is an 8-bit AVR microcontroller from the ATmega family, running at 20 MHz with 16 KB of Flash program memory, 1K x 8 SRAM, and 512 x 8 EEPROM.
20 MHz core and peripheral set
At 20 MHz the AVR core executes most instructions in a single clock cycle, giving roughly 20 MIPS throughput. Brown-out detection, power-on reset, and a watchdog timer are built in, reducing external supervision circuitry.
28-VQFN package — rework and thermal notes
Housed in a 28-VQFN (4x4 mm) with an exposed pad, this part needs a good thermal via stitch under the pad if you push continuous current through the I/O or run near the 85°C ceiling. The QFN profile is reworkable with hot air if the board has a solder-mask-defined pad and you pre-bake the assembly per MSL 3 guidelines — lift the part, not the pad. The 23 I/O pins are on a 0.5 mm pitch, so a decent microscope and fine tip are non-negotiable for hand rework.
