5 ns propagation delay — timing budget for the bus
The ATF16V8C-5JX is a 5 ns EE PLD from Microchip's 16V8 series. The 5 ns propagation delay sets the timing closure floor for address decoding or state-machine sequencing. Eight macrocells per device, each configurable as registered or combinatorial, replace a handful of 74-series logic gates or a single PAL/GAL on a 5V-only rail. The EE programmable type means you can re-program in-circuit or on the programmer — no UV eraser needed.
20-PLCC — J-Lead footprint and rework
The 20-PLCC (J-Lead) package, supplier device package 20-PLCC (9x9), is a surface-mount body with J-formed leads that tuck under the package edge. The J-Lead gives you a visual solder-joint inspection advantage over QFP gull-wings — the fillet is visible from the side. Reflow profile follows standard JEDEC MSL level; the PLCC body absorbs moisture slower than thin QFPs, so floor life after bake is generous. 5V supply rail only — no 3.3V or 1.8V core.
Lifecycle status is Active. The 16V8 series has been in continuous production for decades; Microchip shows no sign of walking away from it. ROHS3 compliant — no exemption expiry to track.
