600 V, 60 A — the thermal budget starts here
The APT60N60BCSG is a 600 V, 60 A N-channel MOSFET in a TO-247-3 through-hole package. The headline on-resistance is 45 mOhm at 44 A with a 10 V gate drive — that is the number to use for conduction-loss calculations at full load. The 431 W power dissipation rating at the case tells you this part needs a heatsink sized for the actual duty cycle, not just the package limit.
Total gate charge is 190 nC at 10 V. That is a moderate-to-high figure — it means the gate driver needs to source and sink enough current to hit the target switching frequency without excessive crossover loss. At 50 kHz the average gate-drive current is about 9.5 mA; at 100 kHz it doubles to 19 mA.
Through-hole TO-247 — rework and mounting
The TO-247-3 through-hole package is straightforward to mount and rework. The three leads are thick enough to handle the 60 A continuous drain current without PCB trace bottlenecks — the limiting factor is the copper pour area on the drain tab and the thermal interface to the heatsink. A hot-air station or soldering iron can remove this part cleanly if the board has adequate clearance around the tab.
