The Microchip A40MX04-PLG84 is an MX-series field-programmable gate array (FPGA) with 6000 gates and 69 user I/O, packaged in an 84-pin PLCC for surface-mount assembly. This part is designed for board-level glue logic, simple state machines, and control-path integration where a small, non-volatile FPGA is preferred over a larger CPLD or discrete logic. The MX family uses an antifuse configuration element, meaning the logic is programmed once and is non-volatile — no external configuration memory is needed, and the design is fixed at programming.
It is not rated for industrial motor drives, outdoor base stations, or automotive under-hood environments. If the application sees ambient temperatures below freezing or above 70°C, this part will not meet the thermal spec; look at the industrial-temperature variants in the MX family or a different family altogether.
