Board-fit and integration
The 24VL014/MS comes in an 8-MSOP package (3.00 mm width, 0.118" pitch) — a compact footprint for space-constrained boards. The surface-mount body demands a solder profile matching the lead-free finish; the narrow pitch means the PCB land pattern should follow the MSOP-8 recommendation in Microchip's application note for reliable reflow. The I²C interface runs at 400 kHz max — fast enough for most parameter-storage and calibration-data tasks, but not for streaming large blocks.
Memory organization and write-cycle budget
Organised as 128 bytes (128 x 8) — a single page write fills the whole array. For a firmware-parameter table that updates once a minute, the write endurance is effectively unlimited over the product lifetime. Access time is 900 ns — this is the random-read latency from the address byte to the first data byte on the bus. The I²C bus clock at 400 kHz means each bit takes 2.5 µs, so the access time is not the bottleneck; the bus speed sets the throughput.
Temperature grade and operating envelope
Rated for -20°C to +85°C ambient — this is the commercial/industrial temperature band. It is not qualified for -40°C cold start or +125°C under-hood use, so if the board sees a freezer or engine bay, step up to the 24AA or 24LC series with the extended temperature option.
