8 Kbit I²C EEPROM — active, industrial temp, single-supply
The Microchip 24AA08-I/SN is an 8 Kbit serial EEPROM with an I²C interface running at 400 kHz — the standard two-wire bus that shares the SDA/SCL lines with other peripherals, so no dedicated SPI port or extra GPIOs are needed on the host MCU.
Memory organization and write timing
Organized as 256 x 8 x 4 — four 256-byte pages. Sequential reads and writes within a page are supported; crossing a page boundary requires a new start condition. For a firmware-update routine writing 256 bytes, each page write takes 5 ms, so a full 8 Kbit (1 KByte) update completes in about 20 ms plus bus overhead. Access time is 900 ns — this is the time from the address latch to data valid on the bus; the I²C clock period (2.5 µs at 400 kHz) dominates the read latency.
Package and lifecycle — active, no end-of-life pressure
The footprint matches industry-standard 24AAxx and 24LCxx devices — a direct drop-in for existing layouts using those parts. Lifecycle status is active per Microchip, with ROHS3 compliance — no last-time-buy clock, no exemption paperwork for EU or California markets.
