What this Zener TVS protects and where it fits
It clamps transients to a maximum of 26.5V at 107A (8/20µs). The -55°C to 175°C junction temperature range suits it for avionics, industrial motor drives, and outdoor telecom where ambient heat or cold extremes are routine.
At 26.5V max clamping, this diode will hold a 15V rail (e.g., 12V nominal with margin) below the typical 30V absolute max of downstream ICs. The 107A peak pulse current at 8/20µs means it can absorb a direct lightning-induced surge on a low-impedance line without failing short. If your rail is 24V nominal, the 15V standoff is too low — you need a higher voltage part.
Active production — sourcing through distribution
Microchip lists the 1N6464US/TR as Active. It ships in Tape & Reel (TR) format, SQ-MELF B package.
Package note — SQ-MELF solder joint design
The SQ-MELF B is a surface-mount MELF with a cylindrical ceramic body and metallised end caps. The footprint requires a solder pad length that extends beyond the end caps by at least 0.5 mm to form a proper fillet. Unlike a standard SOD-123, the MELF can roll during reflow if the paste volume is uneven — use a solder paste stencil with aperture width matching the end cap diameter.
