Fast recovery diode for high-reliability power circuits
The 1N6074US is a 100 V, 3 A fast recovery rectifier diode in a hermetic D-5A SQ-MELF package, built for applications where reverse recovery time and junction temperature range matter more than a commodity SOD-123 can deliver. With a 30 ns trr, it handles the turn-off switching losses in a 100 kHz boost converter or a flyback snubber without the stored charge penalty of a standard recovery diode — the recovery is soft enough to keep EMI below the radiated limit in a MIL-STD-461 test. The 3 A average rating is continuous; the forward surge capability at 9.4 A (2.04 Vf) means it survives the inrush from a capacitive load or a motor start without exceeding the junction's 155°C ceiling.
Package and thermal integration
The D-5A (SQ-MELF, A case) is a hermetic surface-mount package with a metallized ceramic body and solderable end caps — no plastic encapsulation, no moisture sensitivity level to track, and no popcorn cracking risk during reflow. The junction runs from -65°C to 155°C, which covers the full military temperature range plus margin for self-heating in a 3 A continuous load. The SQ-MELF footprint is non-standard compared to a DO-214 or SMB — the solder pad geometry and stencil aperture should follow Microchip's application note for the D-5A package to avoid tombstoning or voiding under the end caps.
