Transient protection for high-reliability DC rails
The 1N6063A is a bidirectional Zener TVS diode from Microchip Technology, rated for 1500W peak pulse power per the 10/1000µs waveform. That 1.5 kW surge rating makes it a candidate for clamping transients on 48 V to 72 V DC buses in avionics, military comms, and industrial power supplies where the operating temperature range stretches from -55°C to 175°C.
Clamping voltage and breakdown window
With a reverse standoff of 82 V and a minimum breakdown of 95 V, the part stays transparent on a nominal 48 V rail. When a surge hits, the clamping voltage maxes at 137 V at the rated 11 A peak pulse current. That 137 V ceiling is the voltage the downstream circuitry must survive — a key number for selecting the DC-DC converter's input MOSFET rating.
Production status and sourcing posture
Microchip lists the 1N6063A as Active, so no last-time-buy clock is ticking.
Bidirectional clamping for bipolar or AC lines
The single bidirectional channel means the 1N6063A clamps both polarities of a transient with one device — useful on signal lines that swing above and below ground, or on AC-coupled data interfaces where a unipolar TVS would need a steering diode bridge.
